Tri-directional road junction

 Tri-directional road PinaviaA tri-directional road junction consists of:

Road A, roadway Aįv of this road with traffic lanes a1 and a2 for entry into the junction, roadway Avm for movement through the junction, roadway Aišv with lanes c1 and b2 for exiting the junction;

Road B, roadway Bįv of this road with lanes b1 and b2 for entry into the junction, roadway Bvm for movement through the junction, roadway Bišv with lanes a1 and c2 for exiting the junction;

Road C, roadway Cįv of this road with lanes c1 and c2 for entry into the junction, roadway Cvm for movement through the junction, roadway Cišv with lanes b1 and a2 for exiting the junction;

Overpasses 1, 2, 3.

The roadway of road A with traffic lane a1 is separated from roadway Avm before the junction and is built first by making a large radius curve and thus joins roadway Cvm of road C, which runs next to it on the left. The joint roadway is built by making a large radius right curve, leads to road B and makes its roadway Bišv with lanes a1 and c2. The other roadway Avm of road A is built first by building a large radius right curve sloping to overpass (or tunnel) 1 and under it (or the overpass), then by an ascending left curve it leads to overpass (or tunnel) 2 and along it (or the tunnel). The center of the left radius of curvature is shifted forward along the roadway, behind the geometrical center of the junction and to the left of it. Behind the overpass this roadway joins the roadway of road B with lane b1, which runs next to it on the right. The joint roadway, by first making a left and then a right large radius curve, leads to road C and makes up its roadway Cišv.

The roadways of roads B and C are built correspondingly to road A.

 

 

 

 

 

Traffic in the junction

Tri-directional road PinaviaTraffic in a tri-directional road junction is uncomplicated. When a driver in Road A wishes to enter Road B, he/she moves into the right yellow lane. Upon entering the junction, the driver will notice that vehicles from Road C are in the adjacent left (green) lane. There is no need to change lanes or give right of way to other vehicles.

When a driver wishes to turn left (from Road A to Road C), he/she moves into the left yellow lane, drives under the overpass, ascends and drives onto anther overpass beyond, which a red traffic lane on the right-hand side is designated vehicles from Road B. In this case, all vehicles can continue to Road C without changing lanes, as well.
