Four-directional road junction

Four-directional road Pinavia

A four-directional road junction consists of:

Road A, roadway Aįv of this road with traffic lanes a1, a2 and a3 for entry into the junction, roadway Avm for movement through the junction, roadway Aišv with lanes d1, b3, c2 for exiting the junction;

Road B, roadway Bįv of this road with traffic lanes b1, b2 and b3 for entry into the junction, roadway Bvm for movement through the junction, roadway Bišv with lanes a1, c3, d2 for exiting the junction;

Road C, roadway Cįv of this road with traffic lanes c1, c2 and c3 for entry into the junction, roadway Cvm for movement through the junction, roadway Cišv with lanes b1, d3, a2 for exiting the junction;

Road D, roadway Dįv of this road with traffic lanes d1, d2 and d3 for entry into the junction, roadway Dvm for movement through the junction, roadway Dišv with lanes c1, a3, b2 for exiting the junction;

Overpasses 1, 2, 3, and 4.

The roadway of road A with traffic lane a1 is built as in a tri-directional junction. Ahead of overpass 2, roadway Avm, which is comprised of traffic lanes a1, and a2, is built as in a tri-directional junction. Beyond overpass 2 roadway Avm forks in two: into right segment Ad and left segment Ak. The right roadway with lane a2 joins traffic lanes d3 and b1 of roads D and B, which are adjacent on the right, and leads by a curve to the right to road C, becoming its roadway Cišv. The left-hand roadway Ak continues by a left curve to overpass 3 and along it. Beyond the overpass, it is joined on both sides by roadways from roads B and C, with traffic lanes b2 and c1. Then through a curve to the right, the joint roadway leads to road D and makes up its roadway Dišv.

The roadways of roads B, C and D are built correspondingly to road A.

Traffic in the junction

Four-directional road Pinavia

The traffic in a four-directional junction corresponds to that in tri-directional junction: each road’s right lane is intended for driving to the right, the center lane for driving straight and the left lane for driving to the left. Depending on conditions, it is also possible to arrange traffic lanes in a different sequence. As shown in the picture, traffic from any road and in any direction has its own separate lane, which intersects other lanes through overpasses or tunnels. Thus, there is no need to change lanes or give right of way within the junction.
